Its business model is to build and subsequently operate a secure and environmentally safe natural gas pipeline infrastructure in order to ensure a reliable and secure natural gas supply for Europe. Nord Stream will generate its revenues from transport fees.

For the operational phase, Nord Stream has developed an operations concept and safety system to ensure the safe operation of the pipelines throughout their lifetime.

The daily functioning of Nord Stream means transporting natural gas through the pipelines. The transportation operations will be ensured by the pipeline system facilities: the Zug head office, landfall facilities in Russia and Germany, as well as third party facilities. Safe and reliable functioning of the system will be secured by maintenance and repair measures and the pipeline control system.
