N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie is a gas infrastructure and gas transmission company with a prominent position in Europe. The total length of its pipeline network in the Netherlands and Germany comes to more than 15,000 kilometres and, with a throughput of almost 125 bcm, it ranks as one of the most extensive high pressure networks in Europe. The system encompasses export stations, blending stations, compressor stations and delivery stations. Gasunie operates and develops the Dutch national gas transmission network and offers transmission services via its independent subsidiary Gas Transport Services B.V., the Dutch national transmission system operator. Since In the North West European market area, Gasunie is building a central logistical role (‘gas roundabout’). Participation in Nord Stream is one manifestation of that ambition, and also the recent purchase of a large German pipeline network, the participation in Gate terminal (the first LNG terminal in the Netherlands) and facilities for underground storage. A major offshore pipeline between the Netherlands and the UK (BBL pipeline) was completed at the end of 2006. Gasunie’s main objective is to enable security of supply and to promote the well functioning of the market. Gas users want a more competitive market and more options. Adequate infrastructure development is vital to enable this. |
