Gasunie

N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie is a gas infrastructure and gas transmission company with a prominent position in Europe.

The total length of Gasunie’s pipeline network in the Netherlands and Germany amounts to more than 15,000 kilometres and, with a throughput of almost 125 bcm, it ranks as one of the most extensive high pressure networks in Europe. The system encompasses export stations, blending stations, compressor stations and delivery stations. Gasunie operates and develops the Dutch national gas transmission network and offers transmission services via its independent subsidiary Gas Transport Services B.V., the Dutch national transmission system operator. Since 1 July 2008, Gasunie has also owned the network of the former gas transport division of BEB and EMGTG in Germany, which now functions as a transmission system operator under the name Gasunie Deutschland.  Gasunie considers the wishes of its customers, who want their gas to be transported at competitive tariffs, to be of prime importance in this process. Gasunie also offers other services within the scope of gas infrastructure, including gas storage. Gasunie carries out all these activities in a safe, efficient, profitable and sustainable manner.

Gasunie is creating a central logistics role (‘gas roundabout’) in the markets of north and western Europe. Participation in Nord Stream is one manifestation of that ambition, as are the recent purchase of a large German pipeline network, participation in the Gate terminal (the first LNG terminal in the Netherlands) and facilities for underground storage. A major offshore pipeline between the Netherlands and the UK (BBL pipeline) was completed at the end of 2006. Gasunie’s main objective is to enable security of supply and promote the smooth functioning of the market. Gas users want a more competitive market and more options. Adequate infrastructure development is vital to enabling this.
