Information Meeting with Russian Environmental NGOs, Saint Petersburg, 28 June 2007


On June 28, 2007 Nord Stream and the Russian Regional Environmental Center held an information meeting with representatives of environmental NGOs of the Baltic Region. The purpose of this informal meeting was to present the Nord Stream project and to inform the community of ecologists about the preparation of the national Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). After the presentations, the company representatives answered various questions about the planned pipeline through the Baltic Sea.

The discussion demonstrated Nord Stream’s readiness for an open dialogue and active information exchange as well as a great interest towards the project on the part of environmental organizations. The meeting was a good start of the constructive dialogue which will be continued at the upcoming public hearings of the EIA. The time and place of the future public hearings on the EIA documents will be announced in the federal and regional press to ensure participation of all interested organizations in the national EIA procedure.The meeting was attended by a number of major Baltic Sea Region’s environmental NGOs, such as «Green Peace» (Moscow), «Friends of the Baltic» (Saint-Petersburg and the region), «Green World» (Sosnovy Bor), «Coalition Clean Baltic and Finnish Society for Nature & Environment» (Finland), «Ecodefense» (Kaliningrad), Environmental Center BELLONA, Association of Environmental Journalists and others, as well as the Saint Petersburg environmental authorities, such as Committee on Resource Management, Environmental Protection and Safety, and the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage.

Nord Stream AG was represented by Dirk von Ameln, Permitting Director, Jorn Bo Larsen, Environmental Expert, Nikolai Grishin, Permitting Manager, and Irina Vasilyeva, Communications Manager.
