Gas and Climate

Natural gas is the most environmentally-friendly type of fossil fuel. Compared to coal and oil, burning natural gas emits 30 to 50 per cent less carbon dioxide.

As a result, increasing the relative share of natural gas supports the EU target of continuously reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helps the European Union achieve the goals of the Kyoto Protocol. That is why Nord Stream has been designated a priority project under TEN-E Guidelines. In summary, the use of natural gas constitutes an important contribution to sustainable and environmentally-friendly energy consumption in Europe.
