The duties of Gerhard Schröder as Chair of the Shareholders Committee are specified in the company statutes. The Shareholders Committee takes all fundamental decisions and determines the strategy of the company, but it does not involve itself in operations.
It was important for our joint venture not to set up a branch in any of the countries along the pipeline route, nor in a country in which one of our shareholders has its headquarters. Switzerland, with its internationally recognised legal system, was a logical choice for our international project. Zug, in particular, has been well-known for decades for its commodity trading business, facilitating the recruitment of relevant experts.
