Munitions surveyNord Stream conducts one of the most rigorous seabed surveys. Currently the designated installation corridor is being screened by the Swedish company Marin Mätteknik AB. The technology used is capable of identifying objects as small as 10 cm. In 2005 and 2006, comprehensive survey covering a 2 km wide corridor or 2.400 km² of the Baltic Sea was conducted by PeterGaz. The results of both surveys have been reported to the appropriate authorities of the concerned countries. Nord Stream also seeks close cooperation with external experts in the survey process. In September 2007, Nord Stream invited geologists, biologists, military officials, as well as munitions and surveying experts from Baltic Sea countries to a two-day information exchange. Another seminar will be held upon completion of the current survey. Nord Stream has drafted a background paper detailing the topic of munitions as well as the survey works. You may access the paper here. Click here for information concerning the recently held press trips on board of the survey vessel Pollux and Franklin. |
