Castoro Sei Begins Laying Line 2

June 7, 2011

The Castoro Sei laybarge began constructing Line 2 of the Nord Stream Pipeline system on June 7. This vessel joins the Solitaire, which has been working on Line 2 in Russian waters since May.

Saipem's Castoro Sei, which will be constructing about 70 percent of Line 2, underwent extensive maintenance at STX Turku, Finland shipyard in May soon after finishing its work Line 1. Once the maintenance of the barge was complete, the barge was moved into Finnsih waters, where it began pipelay from Kilometre Point 350, located west of Hanko and will move toward the Swedish Exclusive Economic Zone. The vessel's movement is assisted by three anchor tugs.

The vessel will lay the majority of the 375-kilometre Finnish section of the route, working through the late summer in the Gulf of Finland.
