Safety Standards

Offshore pipelines represent a proven technology and have supplied natural gas to Europe for over 30 years. The European Union receives 45% of its natural gas imports using this technology.

High standards of technical safety including comprehensive quality control and maintenance measures are set in place to ensure secure delivery of natural gas via Nord Stream to its key market – the European Union.

Nord Stream is fully committed to the safe construction and operation of the pipeline across the Baltic Sea. In order to achieve and maintain maximum safety, the project is optimised in terms of proven design and systematic safety measures.
