Castoro Sei Stinger
In February 2010 at the Port of Rotterdam, the Castoro Sei (C6) was fitted with a new stinger (external ramp) for the Nord Stream project. This pictures shows the stinger (white) before it was installed.
The stinger is attached to the bow of the pipelay vessel and supports the pipeline during laying. This way, stress on the pipeline during laying is controlled and remains acceptable limits The pipelay parameters will be controlled at all times so that the tension remains within the limits determined by the installation engineering analysis at all times. Please note: The stinger is attached to the bow of the Castoro Sei - she actually moves backwards during pipelaying, with the stern facing forward!
