A sub-bottom profiler is lifted back on board of the survey vessel Triad

The sub-bottom profiler identifies and measures various sediment layers that exist below the sediment/water interface. It provides an image of the sub-seafloor layers showing a cross-section of the mud, silt and bedrock that make up the seabed. Nord Stream is conducting what is likely to be the most extensive survey ever of the Baltic Sea in order to minimise the risks associated with munitions dump sites and mines. Multi-channel surveys have identified a small number of targets as conventional munitions. Nord Stream is establishing procedures for the safe handling of these objects in close cooperation with the responsible authorities.
