Concrete Coated Pipe

The concrete mixture is made up of iron ore, aggregate, cement and water and is applied to the pipe with a speed of approx. 190km/h. The concrete coating doubles the weight of the pipe to about 24 tonnes for added stability on the seabed and to provide mechanical protection during handling, transportation and laying operations.
Approximately 200 pipes are coated per day (in 2 shifts). After coating several tests are carried out and the concrete coated pipes are measured (diameter, weight, distance of cage to pipe etc.) to ensure the coating meets the Nord Stream's specifications and quality requirements.
