Benthic, or aquatic fauna, is monitored where dredging or trenching has disturbed the seabed to follow its recovery. Growth on the pipeline itself is also recorded.
Nord Stream is conducting the most comprehensive environmental research of the Baltic Sea's flora and fauna to date. Monitoring will take place throughout construction and operation of the pipelines.
