External Inspection of Line 1 by ROV

The external ROV inspections along the entire length of Line 1 took place from mid-June through mid-October 2012. This was an actual structural survey to confirm the position, depth and condition of the pipeline within the first year of operation. This provided the baseline data against which the results of subsequent inspections can be compared. Line 1 was visually surveyed with underwater cameras mounted on an ROV. It was also equipped with high precision survey sensors to accurately derive the position and depth of the pipelines relative to the adjacent seabed and intervention works. This process is extremely important for the assessment and monitoring of pipeline free spans. Where the pipeline is buried in trenched/intervention areas or has been naturally embedded into the seabed over time, an electromagnetic pipe tracking system to determine the position and depth of the pipeline beneath the seabed.
