Gas production at the Yuzhno-Russkoye gas field
Gas production is concentrated around the city of Novy Urengoy, located 60 kilometres south of the polar circle, 2,500 kilometres north-east of Moscow. In this permafrost zone, winter lasts 284 days a year and the temperatures can drop as low as -47°C.
