Golden Weld
On 28 August, 2012, the “golden weld” connected the offshore part of the second pipeline with the onshore infrastructure in Russia at Portovaya Bay, near Vyborg. The welds connecting the offshore part of the pipeline to the onshore infrastructure in Russia and Germany are also called “golden welds” due to the complexity of their technical implementation and outstanding quality requirements.
