Mounting the gradiometer on the ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle)

The 6.7 m wide, 12-sensor gradiometer array is mounted on an ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle). It detects ferrous materials on the seabed. Nord Stream is conducting what is likely to be the most extensive survey ever of the Baltic Sea in order to minimise the risks associated with munitions dump sites and mines. The state-of-the-art gradiometer was developed specifically for Nord Stream's munitions screening. Multi-channel surveys have identified a small number of targets as conventional munitions. Nord Stream is establishing procedures for the safe handling of these objects in close cooperation with the responsible authorities.
