Mussels Tested Within Environmental Monitoring Programme
As part of Nord Stream's Environmental and Social Monitoring Programme, mussels are tested in a laboratory in Lysekil, Sweden. Mussels filter the sea water to gain nutrients from plankton. Their development is an indicator of water quality. Part of this analysis includes weighing them in wet and dry states with the tissue removed from the shells. Nord Stream directs its monitoring at areas of environmental sensitivity that are predicted to experience potential impacts of some significance (moderate significance or more) as a result of the pipeline project.
