Mussels Tested Within Environmental Monitoring Programme
As part of Nord Stream's Environmental and Social Monitoring Programme, mussels are tested in a laboratory in Lysekil, Sweden. Mussels filter the sea water to gain nutrients from plankton. Their development is an indicator of water quality. The analysis focuses on three states: normal, wet tissue and dry tissue. Nord Stream's approach to environmental and social monitoring is to focus on environmentally sensitive areas that were assessed in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports as being likely to experience a potential impact from the pipeline project.
