Nord Stream Route Optimization (without legend)
The route of the Nord Stream Pipeline was planned and optimised on the basis of technical, environmental, cultural and economic factors. Several different options were evaluated before the actual route was judged as the most executable. Main concern while planning the pipeline has always been to avoid any disadvantages for the affected environment. Therefore, Nord Stream decided to commission additional studies to investigate areas where the pipeline route could be further optimised. Additional route optimisation has been explored further south of Gotland in the Swedish Exclusive Economic Zone and near the island of Bornholm, Denmark. Studies were also conducted near the island of Gogland (EEZ of Russia) in the Gulf of Finland.
