PIG Launcher Welded to Last Pipe of Line 2
One the morning of April 18, 2012, a PIG launcher is welded onto the last pipe of Line 2 aboard the Castoro Sei. The vessel laid about 70 percent, or or 853.5 kilometres of each of the two lines of the Nord Stream Pipeline system.
The PIG (Pipeline Inspection Gauge) launchers are specialised heads attached to the start of the three sections of the pipelines. They house the PIGs that will clean and gauge the sections prior to pressure testing.
