Edda Freya ROV Support Vessel 02
On March 20, 2010 work commenced on clearing the seven mines identified by Nord Stream along the pipeline route in the Swedish Economic Zone. A total of 80 mines must be cleared along the whole natural gas pipeline route, of which most are in Finnish waters. The Edda Freya ROV support vessel will transport a munitions disposal team of 15 is on the vessel along with its crew. In order to avoid possible adverse consequences for maritime traffic, a safety zone is set up around each mine clearing site during clearance work. During mine inspection work (which is performed using underwater cameras, ROV) before and after detonations there must be a safety zone of one kilometre, and a safety zone of one nautical mile (1.85 kilometres) during detonation. Prior to mine clearance, the site where work is to be performed is announced in a note to mariners which is broadcast to all maritime traffic concerned. Mine clearance in Swedish and Finnish waters will be performed by the British mine clearance company Bactec International.
