Nord Stream Pipeline in a Transboundary Context (without legend)
The Nord Stream Pipeline passes through the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) and/or Territorial Waters of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. As a project in a transboundary context, Nord Stream is subject to international conventions and national legislation in each of the countries through whose waters it passes. These countries are defined by the Espoo Convention as “Parties of Origin” as the project takes place under their jurisdiction.Countries which could likely be affected by transboundary environmental impact of the project are defined as “Affected Parties” according to the Convention. Since all nine littoral states of the Baltic Sea might be affected by the impact of the project, they are all considered Affected Parties.
