Interview: Pipelay Vessel Solitaire at Work
Fred Regtop, captain of the Solitaire, explains the functions and characteristics of his pipelay vessel. The Solitaire has its own propeller, and can maintain its position without the need for an anchor. Regtop explains that it’s more difficult to lay a pipeline in shallow waters such as the Baltic, since every movement of the pipeline has a direct impact on the pipelay vessel. Regtop also describes the measures taken aboard the Solitaire to ensure the safety of other ships in the vicinity.
