Interview: Ship Assignments, Construction and Laying of the Pipeline
Ruurd Hoekstra, Deputy Director Construction for Nord Stream AG, explains how the work was divided among the ships, and the differences between the pipelay vessels: The Castoro Sei was working in Swedish, Finnish, and Danish waters; the Castoro Dieci is designed for work in calm waters, and was laying pipe on the German coast. The Solitaire was laying the pipeline between Russia and Finland. While the Castoro Sei and Castoro Dieci are positioned by anchor, the Solitaire has its own propulsion. Hoekstra also talks about the project process, the monitoring of the welding work, and the pipe tracking system, which allows each individual pipe to be identified and tracked.
