The Landfall of the Nord Stream Pipeline in Germany
The terminating point of the Nord Stream Pipeline is located at the energy hub Lubminer Heide near Greifswald, which covers an area of about 12 hectares, including the receiving terminal of the connecting pipelines OPAL and NEL. The onshore part of Nord Stream’s twin pipelines was built to include an omega-shaped expansion loop, capable of compensating for any possible pipeline expansion or contractions due to pressure and temperature variations. This is connected to huge valves, and the pipeline eventually ends in the PIG (Pipeline Inspection Gauges) trap. The arriving gas is fed into the receiving station of OPAL and NEL via a cross-connection. The gas is then prepared for further transport through the connecting pipelines.
